PSA 9 vs PSA 10 Pokémon cards

Why the jump from a 9 to a 10 can double the price, and when it does not.

Two grades, two markets

A PSA 9 and a PSA 10 of the same card are priced separately. On chase cards the PSA 10 premium can be large; on common cards the gap can be small.

Never use a PSA 9 comp to budget a PSA 10 purchase, or vice versa. Match the grade exactly.

Population is the tell

When PSA 10 population is low relative to PSA 9, the 10 carries scarcity value and the gap widens.

When 10s are plentiful, the premium compresses. Read population alongside recent comps before paying up for the higher grade.

Compare tiers before you buy

Open a card on CardSearch and compare the PSA 9 and PSA 10 tiers side by side, asks, sold comps, and the Lyrax read when graded asks look stretched.

The right grade to buy depends on your goal and budget, not on a single hyped sale. Market signals are for collectors and are not financial advice.

Common questions

Why is a PSA 10 worth so much more than a PSA 9?
The PSA 10 premium tracks scarcity and demand. When PSA 10 population is low relative to PSA 9, the gap widens; when 10s are plentiful, it compresses.
Can I use a PSA 9 price to value a PSA 10?
No. Each grade is its own market. Always match comps to the exact grade you are buying or selling.
